Bronze Lifesaving Award

£50.00

Lifesaving returns…with the Bronze Cross

This September our Lifesaving courses restart at the pool on Sunday nights.  Starting 15 September we’ll be running a combined Bronze Lifesaving Certificate and Bronze Cross course. These are great starter awards for anyone wanting to do professional qualifications such as the pool lifeguard.

You don’t need to be an Olympic grade swimmer – as long as you can swim confidently in deep water (swim 2 lengths in a minute), fetch things from the bottom of the pool, and climb out without using the steps, you should be fine.

As well as looking great on CVs and personal statements, these awards can be used as part of your DofE and Chief Scout Awards, so you get more for your efforts – let us know if you do want to use them and we’ll advise you on the best way forward.

So what’s the award?

Firstly the lifesaving award system can be bewilderingly confusing; so don’t worry, we can guide you through it!

The Lifesaving Certificate and Bronze Cross are the first two awards of the National Lifesaving training program, designed for Explorer aged young people. Successful candidates can then move onto the Bronze Medallion (planned for January) which in turn can be used as Recognised Prior Learning towards the National Pool Lifeguard Qualification.

Who’s the trainers?

You’ll be trained by our own professionally qualified volunteers.  Sheaf District Scouts is an Accredited Training Centre with the Royal Life Saving Society for both Lifesaving and Lifeguard awards.

There’s a mixture of water based and land based training, so we’ll use the lower hall at the Unit for the dry training.

Key details:

Start date:       Sunday 15 September at 19:00 at the Pool (Graves) & Tuesday 17 September at 19:30 for the dry work

Duration:         8 weeks

Cost:                £50
