đź‘‹ Let’s get started…
Whether you’re moving up from Scouts, or if you’ve not been to Scouts before (don’t worry – nearly half of our members haven’t been to Scouts before), we need a few basic details from your before their first night.
Once you’re on our system, we’ll send you a secure link to fully submit their details on via OSM.
At the moment, we’re only able to accept new Explorers to our BRAND-NEW Tuesday Unit, starting September 2026.
Moving up from Scouts?
Every Scout in Sheaf District moves up to The Unit at around 14 years old, beginning an exciting new stage packed with bigger adventures, new challenges, and unforgettable experiences.
Your Scout Group will know the best time for you to move up, taking into account your programme and personal circumstances.
Once you’ve spoken with your Scout Leader, please complete our joining form a couple of weeks before you’re due to move up. It’s much easier for us if parents or carers complete the joining process, but please make sure your Scout Leader knows too.
We can’t wait to welcome you to The Unit and start your next adventure together!
The most common questions
Do I need a Uniform
Eventually yes, but not for your first month.
Not every night is in uniform – some nights are messy, and some nights were outside. When you’re ready, so can sort your Uniform out here.
If it’s a Uniformed night in your first month and you’ve moved up from Scouts – wear your Scout uniform. If you’ve not been to scouts before, wear anything.
What about my details? (aka the boring adult bit)
The Unit is run on an online system, called Online Scout Manager. This allows you to update details at any time, sign up for camps, check out our programme and manage their subs payments.
Once we’ve got your basic details, you’ll be added into the system, and an email will be sent to the email address supplied, asking you to fully complete your online profile with us.
Where does it all happen?
We meet on a Tuesday or Thursday night (deepening on which Unit you’re part of), either at The Unit on Helmton Road in Woodseats, or if we’re heading out for the evening, we’ll sometimes ask you to meet us somewhere else.Â
If we’re indoors, we normally meet at 7.30 pm and finish around 9.15 pm. If we’re heading out we normally meet at 7.00 pm and finish at 9.30 pm, unless you hear differently.
To keep us on the good side of our neighbours, we kindly ask that parents drop off/collect Explorers off at the bottom of the road, and let them walk up/down the road. This just keeps unnecessary traffic off Helmton Road – imagine you live there and 50 cars suddenly appear every evening!
What about Subs?
Your first month is on the house, to make sure you’re properly loving it before committing.
Then, subs are set at ÂŁ15 per month, and payable only via Direct Debit.
At some point over the next few weeks, your parents will receive a separate email from us, asking to set this up. Even if it is straight away, we’ve already marked on the system that your first month is on us, so don’t worry.
When can I start?
As soon as you want.
Check out the programme to see what we’re up to over the next month.
As you’re now on our system, you’ll receive our weekly programme email telling you where to meet, what we’re doing, and what you’ll need.
Simply turn up on the meeting, and head on over to a Leader (you can’t miss us) to say hello!
